For Immediate Release – March 7, 2024

Laredo, Texas – Regarding the abrupt retirement of Laredo Sector Chief Patrol Agent Joel Martinez, who was most recently the Acting Deputy Chief of the United States Border Patrol, NBPC Local 2455 wants the membership to know that we strongly denounce and are disgusted by the reports of sexual harassment/misconduct in this ongoing investigation.

We condemn in the strongest possible terms this kind of coercive behavior and we stand with the victims who have had to suffer this unacceptable abuse of authority.

We have been in contact with United States Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens and expect further actions taken to protect Border Patrol Agents and Support Staff from abusive managers.  We will not tolerate this unacceptable behavior!

We urge Border Patrol Agents and Support Staff to contact the National Border Patrol Council, Local 2455 for all workplace-related matters.  Stay safe and thank you for protecting America’s borders!

The National Border Patrol Council is the exclusive representative of approximately 18,000 Border Patrol Agents and support personnel assigned to the U.S. Border Patrol, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security.
