Important Update: Retention Incentives for 1896 Border Patrol Agents

Local 2455 Members,

The National Border Patrol Council has been working closely with the Agency and the Administration to implement the retention incentives for 1896 Border Patrol Agents authorized in the One Big Beautiful Bill passed this summer.

The logistics are being finalized, but here is what you can expect:

Eligibility:

The retention incentive will apply to all 1896 BPAs. Some eligibility requirements will apply, such as whether an agent is already subject to an incentive agreement. More details will be provided once finalized.

First Incentive:

The first disbursement is expected within the next month. Eligible agents will receive $20,000 in exchange for a two-year service commitment.

Second Incentive:

After the initial two-year period, another $20,000 retention incentive will be available, with the same service commitment.

Third Incentive:

At the end of the final retention period, a $10,000 incentive will be available.

Total Value: In total, eligible BPAs will have access to $50,000 in retention incentives.

We recognize there will be questions and challenges, much like with the previous 5% retention incentive. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

This achievement would not have been possible without the hard work of your Union and the support of President Trump and his Administration, as well as USBP, CBP, and DHS.

The National Border Patrol Council remains committed to working with Congress, the White House, and the Agency to secure the best possible outcomes for our members.

Stay safe,

Hector Garza
