2024 AFGE NATIONAL CONVENTION DELEGATE NOMINATION MEETING NOTICE

DATE OF NOTICE: March 12, 2024

AGENDA:

• Whether the local will participate in the National Convention from August 12, 2024 thru August 16, 2024, where the delegates will elect the National President, National Secretary- Treasurer, and National Vice President for Women and Fair Practices;
• Whether the local will be represented by delegate(s), alternate delegate(s), OR a proxy delegate (all of whom must be elected by name by a secret manual or mail ballot election and by plurality vote);
• Whether the local will: (a) authorize only its existing delegate(s) to cast the local’s full membership strength at the National Convention; OR (b) elect delegates up to its full complement, in addition to the existing delegates.
• Vote on whether to fund expenses of the delegate(s) and/or alternate delegate(s) participating in the National Convention.

Local 2455’s seven (7) elected Executive Board Officers have already been designated as delegates by virtue of office. If members authorize additional delegates, then nominations for the additional delegates will be accepted and, at a future date to be determined, an election will be held for a secret vote to elect the one (1) additional delegate.

Nominations will take place on March 30, 2024 at 10:00am at the NBPC Local 2455 Office located at 6422 Sinatra Parkway in Laredo, Texas, with the election held at a later date to be announced with a separate election notice, for the office of delegate(s) and alternate delegate(s) to the National Convention in August 2024.  Qualifications: be a member in good standing; be a member for one year of an AFGE local, immediately preceding the closing of the nomination process; and must not be a member in any labor organization not affiliated with the AFL-CIO. Each candidate may have a reasonable number of observers, who are members, present throughout the election process. Members who unavoidably are absent from the nomination meeting may make and accept nominations by way of a letter at PO Box 2363, Laredo, Texas 78044. We urge all members to participate. Elections are governed by the AFGE Rules of Conduct for an Election, Appendix A of the AFGE National Constitution.

The designated delegates will represent Local 2455 at the AFGE National Convention to be held from Monday, August 12, 2024 through Friday, August 16, 2024 in Las Vegas, NV.

NOTE: AFGE National Conventions are considered internal union business and official time to travel to and from these events, or to attend the events is not authorized. As a result, delegates attend and travel to/from these events on days off or annual leave.
